AWLA Module 3 Workshop

Through various capacity development programs, ICBA aims to harness the skill and creativity of women and youth to generate novel solutions for food security and agriculture. One of such programs is the Arab Women Leaders in Agriculture program (AWLA). Being the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa, AWLA is a leadership program aimed at women researchers with potential for making an impact in their workplaces, communities and countries to spearhead positive changes in agriculture while addressing the challenges they face in their careers.

AWLA’s first 2019 cohort includes 22 fellows from Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia in the MENA region.

The program will facilitate knowledge exchange and networking among the women researchers throughout the region. It will empower groups of young Arab women champions and build a critical mass of pathfinders, visionary leaders, and change agents. They will ultimately contribute to better and more women-centered solutions for improved food security and nutrition.

AWLA conducted two training workshops in Tunisia in July and November 2019. The third workshop will be conducted at ICBA’s headquarters in Dubai, UAE, on 1-7 March 2020. On March 8 2020 fellows will celebrate the completion of their fellowship and participate in a special event on the occasion of the International Women’s Day.
