Since its adoption in 2012, ICBA’s Strategy 2013-2023 has been the guiding force behind the center’s work. The strategy has been informing ICBA’s research and development programming for the past six years. During this period, the strategy has proven an important tool for devising actions in response to the needs of a wide range of stakeholders in different regions. However, the global research and development landscape has considerably changed. A host of threats and opportunities arose, which required ICBA to carry out a mid-term review of the strategy and rethink the way forward for the center with a fresh look that capitalizes on the opportunities while mitigating the threats. A prime example of the opportunities is the adoption of the comprehensive United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015, while dwindling funding for research and development is among the main challenges.
