Dr. Jeetendra Prakash Aryal

Economist

Dr. Jeetendra Prakash Aryal joined ICBA as Economist in May 2023. He specializes in development and resource economics and has more than two decades of experience in the field.

Before joining ICBA, he had worked in several international institutions, including the Asian Development Bank Institute; the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT); the Norwegian University of Life Sciences; and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

He had also worked as an assistant professor of economics at the Central Department of Economics at Tribhuvan University, Nepal, from 1997 to 2006. Of the several topics which he has worked and published on, the majority are related to climate change adaptation, mitigation, and policies; adoption of agricultural technology and policies, and impact assessment; social (i.e., gender and caste-based inequalities), economic and spatial inequalities; and agricultural and food system transformation for achieving sustainable food security under climate change. He has led several large projects across multiple countries and regions and is experienced in leading multidisciplinary teams.

Dr. Jeetendra Prakash Aryal has published more than 40 articles in international peer-reviewed (Scopus-indexed) journals, as well as several reports and books. Moreover, he has served as a reviewer at many international peer-reviewed journals and as a guest editor for a number of journals, including Environmental Challenges, Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems, Frontiers in Climate, and International Journal of Water Resources Development. He is currently an editorial board member of Agricultural System, a respected journal by Elsevier.

He received an MA in macroeconomics from Tribhuvan University, Nepal, with a gold medal in 1993, and later completed an MSc and a PhD in Development and Resource Economics at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Norway.
