Short-term Consultancy: Development of E-Learning course content on “Water resources and irrigation management systems in arid regions”

As part of ICBA’s efforts to reach more stakeholders around the world and transfer knowledge through capacity development offerings, ICBA is developing an E-Learning platform. This platform will provide a collection of digitized training courses in different topics. These courses will target different stakeholders around the world, including experts, technicians, extension officers, graduate, and post-graduate student with special focus on youth and women.

Job Summary

The assignment for this consultancy is to develop an E-learning course material on “Water resources and irrigation management systems in arid regions”. The course targets experts, technicians, extension officers and university students in fields related to water and irrigation management. The language of the course is English.

Job Responsibilities

The consultancy will include the followings deliverables:

  1. Course syllabus and learning objectives.
  2. Course structure and learning guidelines and learning outcomes.
  3. Module I: Concept of water resources
    1. Introduction to marginal and arid environments
    2. Global overview on water resources and climate change impact
    3. Climatic and environmental conditions in arid regions with focus on the UAE
    4. Learning assessment on the module
  4. Module II: Irrigation management
    1. Irrigation systems
    2. Irrigation techniques for salinity management
    3. Water sampling methods
    4. Learning assessment on the module
  5. Module III: Water-soil-crop relations
    1. Understanding soil-water-crop relationships
    2. Increasing water productivity of crops
    3. Calculating water requirements for crops
    4. Learning assessment on the module
  6. Scripts for 3-5 minutes learning videos on each module
  7. Reading material – open sources – for each module
  8. Final learning assessment on the course
Qualifications and Experience

Desirable

  • PhD in water or irrigation-related sciences.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in water or irrigation-related fields or research.
  • Previous experience in developing educational or training contents.
  • Experience in desert ecosystems, preferably in the GCC.
  • Fluent in English

Other requirements

  • The consultant will prepare the training contents using ICBA templates and branding guidelines.
  • ICBA will keep the right to use the provided material in other training contents and/or translate them to other language while maintaining the credit to the author.
  • The consultant is expected to finalize the course material within two months after signing the consultancy agreement.
  • The consultant should provide ICBA with updated CV and a passport copy.
  • The consultant must provide links to all open-source images, videos, data, and similar resources used in the training. ICBA can share their resources to include in the contents, if available
