Mr. Showkat Nabi Rather, Journalism and Media Outreach Specialist at the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA), has recently won a scholarship to do a program in persuasive communication for technology professionals at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, USA.
He was awarded the scholarship for his past academic achievements and extensive professional experience in the media and international development sectors. Mr. Rather was among 16 professionals selected for the program from around the world.
The program focused on principles and skills in communicating across cultures in a globalized work environment, intercultural business communication, and understanding the importance of intercultural differences in persuasion in order to be a global communicator. The program covered a range of topics such as public presentation, multi-media communication, persuasive decision-making, and application of persuasion research.
The week-long program was aimed at professionals who need to deliver messages to diverse audiences across different media channels, as well as those who need to enhance their critical thinking abilities to construct and evaluate arguments and claims with positive outcomes.
