The International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) is pleased to announce the publication of the ICBA Annual Report 2014. The report covers a wide range of our work focusing on applied research and innovation, capacity building, policy formulation, and facilitating regional and international collaboration.
In keeping with our strategy for 2013-2023, we worked closely with national, regional and international partners to conduct applied research and develop sustainable agricultural solutions for resource-poor populations in marginal and saline environments.
In 2014, our scientists continued to work with farmers and rural communities to develop modules for scaling up efficient seed production delivery systems, integrated forage production packages, and better dairy production and marketing options. This work forms part of our efforts to enhance impact on the ground.
As part of research into neglected and underutilized plant species, our scientists screened a number of crops for their potential as sources of food and fuel. In particular, our center’s work on quinoa shows great promise for this crop to become a viable alternative for marginal environments. Our work on irrigating Salicornia with seawater to produce biofuel progressed further and is now in advanced stages.
However, it is important to note that all this work was possible thanks to productive collaboration with and support from national, regional and international partners, including our core donors.
