ICBA donates 2 tons of dates to the Tarahamu (Show Compassion) campaign

The International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) has donated more than 2 tons of dates to the Tarahamu (Show Compassion) campaign. This follows the recent widespread appeal from the UAE President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, for the construction of an air bridge to deliver emergency relief supplies to Syrian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, and Palestine who are affected by a severe snow storm.

ICBA is a non-profit international center for applied research for agriculture in marginal lands. ICBA’s donation of dates is the result of its annual produce from a long-term field trial (over 10 years) on the 18 most-demanded varieties of date palm from the Arabian Peninsula, 10 from the UAE and 8 from Saudi Arabia, that are grown under three levels of salinity (low, medium, and high).

On this occasion, Dr. Ismahane Elouafi, Director General of ICBA, emphasized the leading role of the United Arab Emirates in humanitarian relief under the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan. “More than one million brothers and sisters from Syria are now facing severe conditions among which is malnourishment in their various refugee camps. We are positive that our shy donation along with that of many others will contribute to a sizable relief measure,” concluded Dr. Elouafi.
