Quinoa Open Day
The Ministry of Environment and Water (MOEW) of the UAE and the International Center for Biosaline Agricutlure (ICBA) have organized a "Quinoa Open Day" on the 14th of April 2015 at the Al Dhaid research station where ICBA has been working on a Quinoa research with the Ministry since 2014. This event gathered various stakeholders that would be directly involved in the promotion of Quinoa agriculture in the UAE and other similar marginal environments.
The video shows the speech by H.E. Saif Al Shara, Assistant Undersecretary for Agricultural and Livestock Affairs at the Ministry of Environment and Water of the UAE; in addition, a short interview with Dr. Ismahane Elouafi, Director General of the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA).
ICBA has been conducting research on Quinoa, since 2006, far before the United Nations recognized Quinoa as the crop of the year for 2013. The results of ICBA trials on Quinoa in its research sites across various parts of the Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia have shown very promising results that positions Quinoa as a super crop for marginal environments.
