Evaluation of High-Value Fruit Trees (Pomegranate, Mango, Citrus, Fig & Moringa) for Tolerance to Heat and Salinity in GCC Countries

Project/Experiment Duration: 2019-2021

Objectives:

  1. Evaluate fruit trees for their tolerance to heat and salinity.
  2. Optimize the cultivation of specific fruit trees in the UAE.
  3. Introduce the cultivation of some new high-value fruit trees.
  4. Improve fruit production in the UAE and decrease importation of certain fruits.

Date of Planting: February 2019

Experimental Design: Multi environment RCBD design

Treatments/Variables: 5 crops (fruit trees)

Environment: 3 levels of irrigation water quality (fresh water, 5 dS/m & 10 dS/m)

This experiment is designed to evaluate the tolerance of high-value fruit trees like pomegranate, mango, citrus, fig, and moringa to heat and salinity in the conditions of GCC countries. The experiment aims to:

  1. Evaluate fruit trees for their tolerance to heat and salinity;
  2. Optimize the cultivation of certain fruit trees in the UAE;
  3. Introduce the cultivation of some new high-value fruit trees;
  4. Improve fruit production in the UAE and decrease the importation of certain fruits.
