In line with the provisions of the articles of association of the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA), Dr. Tarifa Ajeif Alzaabi has been appointed as the Center’s new Director General, becoming the first Emirati to hold the position since ICBA’s foundation in 1999.
  • Launched with funding from the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), the project will be implemented by the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) through its Regional Office for Central Asia and the South Caucasus in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in partnership with the Ministry of Innovative Development of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan. The project will specifically target vulnerable communities living in the degraded areas of Karakalpakstan, a republic within Uzbekistan

New project aims to boost agri-production in degraded areas of Aral Sea basin

As part of international efforts to support agricultural productivity and sustainability of resources in view of the challenges of climate change, a new quadripartite collaboration was launched to support resource-poor rural communities and develop degraded ecosystems in the Aral Sea region.
  • Published in Agricultural Water Management, the study is based on the results of an experiment carried out at ICBA’s research station in Dubai from 2001 to 2016. Researchers evaluated the performance of 18 local and regional date palm varieties in an open-field area of 2.5 hectares.

New study gauges long-term salinity effect on date palm fruit yield

A new study conducted by a team of scientists from the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA), the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), and the University of Vigo, Spain, has produced a fresh insight into the long-term impact of salinity on fruit yield of 18 date palm varieties from the Arabian Peninsula.
