Dubai – Distinguished delegation from the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) visited the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) on Thursday, 19 September 2013. The EAD delegation included each of Mr. Darryl Lew, Dr. Simon Pearson, Dr. Mohamed Dawood, Mr. Khalfan Al Suwaidi, Dr. Mahmud Abdelfattah, Ms. Shaikha Al Hosani, Ms. Hessa Banijabir, Ms. Wafa Yamani, and Ms. Helena Elizabeth Carless.
The visiting delegation had the opportunity to tour ICBA facilities and research fields and got insight on the various active projects that ICBA is working on; following which, the EAD delegation had a closed meeting with ICBA scientists, headed by Dr. Shoaib Ismail, the Acting Director of Research and Innovations, where they discussed various collaboration eminent collaboration opportunities.
Mr. Darryl Lew, Executive Director, Environment Quality at EAD reflected positive feedback in his comments on the outcomes of the visit to ICBA. He said, “EAD looks forward to collaborating extensively on our Forestry and Water Use and Crop Calculator Projects; some of the research that we have seen today from ICBA is directly applicable to the work that we want to do in Abu Dhabi.”
The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi is one of the main donors of the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture. EAD is a governmental agency that initiated its work in 1996. They are committed to protecting and managing biodiversity, providing a clean environment and promoting Sustainable Development in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. They are also committed to giving environmental protection, regulation and natural resources conservation a high priority on the national agenda. EAD provides a direction for Government, business and the community to build environmental considerations into the way they plan and live without compromising Abu Dhabi development.
