Job Summary
This technical support is required to develop an in-house database and information system for a gene bank, which will facilitate the efficient cataloging, management, and accessibility of plant genetic resources. By streamlining data processes and ensuring accurate information retrieval, this project will contribute to the efficient preservation and utilization of valuable plant genetic diversity. It is essential to invest in this infrastructure to support research, breeding programs, and conservation efforts aimed at addressing current and future agricultural challenges. Also to ensure the conservation and sustainable utilization of plant genetic resources by providing access to genetic materials to researchers, breeders, and farmers.
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct an initial assessment of the gene bank's existing data management processes and requirements.
- Collaborate with domain experts, geneticists, and curators to define the necessary data fields, data relationships, and functionalities required for the database system.
- Design and develop a customized database schema and data model that can accommodate the diverse information associated with plant genetic resources.
- Utilize appropriate database management software or platforms to implement the database system, ensuring compatibility, scalability, and security.
- Develop a user-friendly interface for data entry, retrieval, and reporting, incorporating features such as advanced search options, data visualization, and export functionalities.
- Implement data validation and quality control mechanisms to enforce data integrity and minimize errors.
- Conduct thorough testing and debugging to ensure the functionality, performance, and reliability of the database and information system.
- Assisting in the cataloging, and preservation of plant samples
- Organizing information
- Collaborating with researchers to support ongoing projects.
- Maintaining the Gene Bank's inventory and database
- Assist in preparing the genebank report draft
Qualifications and Experience
- Masters in statistics, data management or related fields.
- Previous experience in related field is desirable.
- Advanced computer skills.
- Advanced Excel Skills.
- Available in UAE with a valid residence.
Monthly stipend - AED2,500
