Dr. Hicham Fatnassi
Senior Horticulture Scientist

Dr. Hicham Fatnassi joined ICBA in January 2021 as Senior Horticulture Scientist.

He has more than 20 years of research experience in analysis and design of innovative and environmentally friendly greenhouse systems. His research involves use of computational fluid dynamic models for designing greenhouse structures to optimize ventilation and create favorable environmental conditions for plant growth; climate control in greenhouses equipped with insect-proof screens; and development of greenhouse management solutions based on microclimate and pest interactions.

He has also worked on photovoltaic greenhouses since 2009. More specifically, he has focused on design and optimization of greenhouses equipped with solar panels.

Over the years, he has built a large network of scientific and industrial partnerships.

He is internationally known for his research work on greenhouse climate control and integrated pest management during his tenure at INRAE (formerly INRA), the French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment, from 2002 to 2020.

He has published more than 116 research papers in international peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, as well as two book chapters.

He holds a Ph.D. in environmental physics applied to greenhouse climate characterization and modeling from Ibn Zohr University in Agadir, Morocco, in collaboration with INRAE Avignon, France.
